FITNESS CENTRE FAQ
Q: I have never attended a gym before. How will I know what to do and how to exercise safely?
A: Upon joining MABC, you do not have to have any previous gym knowledge. We understand that starting an exercise program for the first time can sometimes be a little intimidating. Therefore as a new Fitness Centre member, you are given appointments with your own health and fitness specialist who will guide, support and motivate you through those important early stages. After an initial health evaluation our staff will write you an individualised exercise program, specifically designed to meet your goals. The evaluation is followed by program inductions to ensure you are comfortable with your exercises. For optimal results we encourage members to speak to our trainers who can maximise your results through a specific results based personal training program.
Q: What do I need to bring for my workouts?
A: All you need to bring is a towel and a drink (water is best). We do also offer a large range of drinks at our Café for purchase.
Q: What clothes should I wear?
A: Whatever you are comfortable working out in. Most people wear shorts or tracksuit pants, with a t-shirt or singlet top, and maybe a jumper until warmed up. Any type of athletic shoes are fine, however your shoes need to have a covered toe and heal (no thongs or sandals).
Q: What are your Fitness Centre rules/etiquette?
A: For courtesy, proper hygiene, and safety to all members, MABC requests that each member abides by the following:
- Wipe down equipment after use
- Carry a water bottle and towel at all times
- Place bags in lockers provided rather than in the gym floor area
- Return all weights to original position after use
- Refrain from adding extra weight plates to pin loaded equipment
- For safety use weight collars when using barbells
- Refrain from resting on equipment between sets (as other members may wish to use it)
- Wear appropriate clothing
- Refrain from dropping weights when exercising
Q: Can I bring a friend with me as a guest?
A: Members can bring a friend/first time user of MABC to try out the centre on a 5 day pass for FREE. All you need to do is see our reception staff in the Fitness Centre to activate your guest pass.
Q: How old do I have to be to join the fitness centre?
A: If you are 15 years old you are able to attend the centre as long as you are here at all times with another member that is 18 years or older. At 15 you will be excluded from the weights area and some weight bearing Group Fitness Classes as it is not considered safe for a body that is still growing to use weights unless strictly supervised by a MABC Fitness Instructor. At 16 years old you are welcome to attend the gym independently.
Q: Can I use the pool with my membership?
A: Absolutely, all MABC Fitness Centre membership’s give you access to all facilities including the pools.
Q: What other access do I get for my membership?
A: You also get complimentary use of the Spa/Steam/Sauna areas, when wishing to use these areas you need to check in with reception desk who will issue you with a coloured wrist band which is to be worn at all times when using these areas.
Q: Is Group Fitness an extra cost?
A: Our current membership prices include access to all of our Group Fitness Classes, including Aqua Classes.
Q: What fitness equipment do you have in the centre?
A: The centre is fitted out with state of the art cardio equipment which is a combination of treadmills, steppers, cross trainers, bicycles and rowers. We also have a wide range of pin loaded and free weights and all our equipment is supplied by industry leader Technogym.
Q: Do you have lockers in the Fitness Centre?
A: Yes we do, both the male and female member change rooms have electronic lockers which are complimentary to use as a member.
